At St Agnes’ Catholic Parish, we believe residential aged care should feel like home to our residents, and their families and friends.

And for more than 40 years, we have provided compassionate, professional aged care to older people across the Port Macquarie Hastings region.

Our two residential aged care homes, St Agnes’ Site and Emmaus Home, offer both permanent and respite care, each designed to support wellbeing, maintain dignity, and provide comfort at every stage of ageing.

Both homes provide 24/7 professional care, beautiful landscaped gardens, engaging lifestyle activities, and inviting communal spaces where residents can relax, connect, and enjoy time with family and friends.

Co-located with world-leading dementia community, Emmaus Village, Emmaus Home offers permanent and respite care, including a memory support unit, with a mix of private and shared ensuites, beautiful gardens, engaging activities, covered walkways, and an onsite chapel and café.

How to apply?

Choosing a residential aged care home for yourself or a loved one is an important step. Our application process is designed to make the journey as easy and reassuring as possible.

Step 1 - Gather key documents

Before applying, please ensure you have the following documents ready:

A referral code from My Aged Care for respite or permanent residential aged care
An appointed Power of Attorney and Enduring Guardian

As part of the application process, you will be asked to source a GP that can continue the care of your loved one while in our care. This is a requirement of entry.

St Agnes’ Catholic Parish operates a GP clinic; however, there is currently an extensive waitlist.

Step 2 - Submit an application

When you have your key documents ready, you can submit your application online using our short application form or contact our admissions team to start the application process.

If you or your loved one is in hospital, the hospital discharge planner may be able to assist with this step.

Step 3 - Meet our admissions team

Once we’ve received your application, we’ll schedule a convenient time for you to meet with a member of our admissions team. Meetings are usually held in person at our Port Macquarie office but can also be conducted via phone or videoconference if required.

This meeting will cover the admissions paperwork, accommodation costs and fees, and what we need to proceed with your application, such as a means test from Services Australia and a GP who can continue your care after admission.

Step 4 - Optional tour

We will support you with arranging a convenient time to meet our team and see the home. While optional, our tours are encouraged as they are designed to help you get a feel for the community and care we provide, ensuring you and your loved feel comfortable and confident in your decision.

Step 5 - Receive your move-in date

Once you’re happy to proceed, our admissions team will contact you to schedule a move-in date. All necessary paperwork will need to be completed beforehand.

If your preferred home and/or room isn’t available, you will be placed on a waitlist, and we’ll provide you with regular updates for peace of mind.

Step 6 - Welcome to your new home!

Moving into residential aged care is a big life change, not just for the resident but for family and friends too. Our caring teams will support you every step of the way, and our pastoral and spiritual care staff are also available to help make the transition as smooth and comforting as possible.

How do I know which home is better suited for my loved one?

Both St Agnes’ Home and Emmaus Home offer compassionate, 24/7 care. The right choice depends on your loved one’s needs and preferences. Our friendly admissions team will meet with you, discuss options, and help guide you to the home that best supports comfort, wellbeing, and connection.

What types of care is available?

We provide permanent care, planned respite care, and emergency respite care across both homes.

How much will I pay for residential aged care?

The cost of accommodation in our residential aged care homes depends on a means assessment carried out by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Fees vary by home and room type.

What do I need to apply for residential aged care?

Before applying for residential aged care, you will need the following:

Will my loved one need to move facilities if their needs change?

No. Residents can comfortably age in place, with care adjusted as their needs evolve. Our teams also provide compassionate end-of-life support, supported by pastoral and spiritual care for families.

Do you offer tours of your homes?

Yes. Tours are available by appointment for people who have applied to live in our homes. Our team will show you around, answer your questions, and help you get a feel for the community and care we provide.

Do you have couple’s rooms?

No. All rooms in our homes are single occupancy, designed for one person. Several couples live in our homes, enjoying time together in communal areas, gardens, and during activities while still having their own private space.

Will I get to choose which room my loved one lives in?

During the application process, our admissions team will discuss your loved one’s preferences and care needs. Where possible, we will offer a few room options to help you make an informed choice. Please note that final allocation is subject to availability.

Are concessional places available?

Yes. Both homes have a limited number of concessional places for residents who are unable to pay the full accommodation costs. Eligibility is determined through a government means assessment conducted by Services Australia. We’ll guide you through this as part of the application process.

What support is available for families and carers?

We provide regular updates, family meetings, and opportunities to participate in activities, ensuring families are informed and involved. Our pastoral and spiritual care team is also available for emotional and spiritual support for residents and their families.

What activities and programs are available for residents?

Our homes offer a wide range of onsite and offsite lifestyle, social, and recreational activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities. From gardening and craft sessions to music, exercise, and community outings, our programs encourage connection, engagement, and wellbeing.

Do you accept pets?

No. Residents aren’t able to keep pets in our homes, but family pets are welcome to visit, helping maintain connection and companionship. We simply ask that vaccinations are up to date, and a copy is provided to us prior to visiting. We also have planned visits from therapy animals throughout the year to bring joy and comfort to everyone.
