FAQs

What is a traineeship?

A traineeship with St Agnes’ Catholic Parish lets you work as a personal care worker in one of our three residential aged care homes while completing your Certificate III qualification – all under the one roof, through our onsite RTO, John Henry Institute. That means you can earn while you learn.

How long does it take?

It usually takes 12 to 18 months to complete a Certificate III in Individual Support, depending on your study pace.

Do I need previous experience?

No. An aged care traineeship is the first step in the path towards a rewarding career in aged care, so no experience is required. Traineeships are great for school leavers, and those either looking for a career change or returning to the workforce.

Do I need a Police Check?

Yes. A National Police Check is required for all aged care trainees. You will also be required to attend mandatory safeguarding training and onsite induction.

What types residents will I work with?

You will work with a broad range of residents with different requirements and care needs. If you have a particular interest in aged care, for example, working with people living with dementia, we will work with you to find the right fit.

What career opportunities are available after completion?

A Certificate III is your first step into a rewarding career in aged care. You’ll work as a personal care worker, gaining practical experience and skills. If you choose to continue your studies, we can support you with enrolling in a Certificate IV in Ageing Support or Diploma of Nursing. Some of our trainees have also gone on to complete a Bachelor of Nursing to work as a Registered Nurse.

What’s the application process?
