The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is the second Sacrament of Healing in the Catholic Church, along with Reconciliation.

"For all who are sick, do not lose hope, especially when your suffering is at its worst"

It is a sacred gift instituted by Christ to bring healing, comfort and strength to those who are seriously ill, elderly, or facing major surgery.

Through this sacrament, the sick person is united more intimately with the Passion of Christ, receiving peace, courage, and spiritual strength. The anointing also brings forgiveness of sins if the person is unable to celebrate Reconciliation, and, when it is God’s will, may even bring physical healing. Most importantly, it prepares the person for the journey to eternal life with God.

How is it celebrated?

The priest anoints the forehead and hands of the sick person with blessed oil while offering prayers for the grace of the sacrament. This simple yet profound ritual reminds us of God’s love and care in times of suffering.
