The basic daily fee applies to all residents entering residential aged care, whether for respite or permanent care. It contributes to everyday living costs such as meals, laundry, cleaning, and utilities.
The amount is set by the government at 85% of the single age pension and is reviewed twice a year.
If you're moving into permanent residential aged care, you'll also pay for your accommodation.

Depending on your income and assets, you may be asked to contribute towards the cost of your care.
Services Australia (or the Department of Veterans' Affairs) completes a means assessment to determine whether these contributions apply to you and how much you will pay.
A contribution towards the cost of your ongoing care. The amount you pay is based on your income and assets.
A contribution towards everyday living costs, such as meals, cleaning, laundry and utilities.
A contribution towards non-clinical services that support daily living, such as personal care, mobility assistance and lifestyle activities.
Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (MPIR): 8.43%
RAD (Refundable Accommodation Deposit): A lump sum payment that is fully refundable when you leave care.
DAP (Daily Accommodation Payment): Interest charged on the unpaid RAD balance, calculated using the Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (MPIR) of 8.43%.
Formula: Reduced DAP = (Full RAD − RAD Paid) × MPIR ÷ 365
