Parish welcomes relic of Saint Carlo Acutis
A quiet sense of wonder filled St Agnes' Church on 9 July as visitors gathered for the rare opportunity to view the first-class pilgrim relic of St Carlo Acutis, the Catholic Church's first millennial saint.
Born in 1991, Carlo was known for his friendly and inclusive nature, his strong Catholic faith, and his remarkable talent for computers and information technology. He used his digital skills to support his parish and school, creating websites and online resources to share the Gospel and connect people with their faith.
Carlo encouraged young people to be true to themselves, famously saying, “All people are born as originals, but many die as photocopies.”
Carlo died from leukemia in 2006 at just 15 years of age and on September 7, 2025 he was officially canonized as a saint.
The relic consisted of a section of St Carlo’s pericardium (the sac which encloses the heart) and is currently on a national tour of the diocese around Australia.
As music played visitors paused in quiet reflection and wrote prayer intentions which will be sent to Assisi, Italy and offered at the alter in the church where St Carlo lies.
Accompanying the relic was an exhibition designed by Carlo himself, documenting verified Eucharistic miracles from around the world. Displayed in the Parish Hall, the exhibition drew many parishioners and community members who spent time exploring its stories and significance.
