Congratulations on deciding to have you or your child baptised in the Catholic Church.

Baptism is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church, followed by Confirmation and Eucharist. Through Baptism, we are incorporated into the Body of Christ and begin our journey as disciples of Jesus.

The rite of baptism

The essential rite of this sacrament consists in immersing the candidate in water or pouring water over their head while invoking the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Everyone who is to be baptised is required to make a profession of faith. This is done personally in the case of an adult or by the parents and by the Church in the case of infants.

Please note baptisms are celebrated at 10:00am on Sundays at St Agnes’ Catholic Church.

Preparing for baptism

Preparation for baptism varies according to age.

Children: 0 to 6 years old

Parents are required to attend an information session before the baptism. Sessions are held monthly at 5:30pm at St Agnes’ Catholic Church.

Youth: 7 to 17 years old

A preparation program consisting of five (for children) or ten (for teens) weekly sessions is required prior to baptism.
