Confirmation is the second Sacrament of Initiation in the Catholic Church, following Baptism.

Through it, the grace received at Baptism is strengthened and deepened. In Confirmation, the bishop (or a priest delegated by him) prays for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and anoints the candidate with Sacred Chrism, marking them with the seal of the Spirit.

This sacrament equips us to grow as disciples of Christ, giving us the courage and strength to witness to our faith in everyday life. It confirms our identity as sons and daughters of God and sends us out to share the Gospel with joy.

Who can receive confirmation?

At St Agnes’ Catholic Parish, children are usually prepared for Confirmation around the ages of 8 to 9 (year 3), after suitable catechesis and formation. The preparation journey helps families and candidates grow in understanding of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the responsibility of living a Christian life.

Adults who have not yet received the sacrament are also invited to prepare for Confirmation, often through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
