St Agnes’ & St Thomas’ to light up church hill for ArtWalk 2025
In a celebration of creativity, community, and Christian unity, St Agnes’ Catholic Parish will join St Thomas’ Anglican Church in participating in Port Macquarie’s ArtWalk 2025, lighting up the historic church hill on Friday 4 July from 5pm to 9pm.
This year’s ArtWalk theme, ‘Out of This World’, invites visitors to experience a galactic night of creativity and wonder. In the spirit of ecumenism—promoting unity among Christian churches—St Agnes’ and St Thomas’ will transform Hay Street (between William and Hayward Streets) into a vibrant hub of light, music, history, art, and activity.
The event will feature stunning light projection shows at both churches.
The St Agnes’ Catholic Church light display will blend historical imagery with cosmic themes and offer visitors an interactive ‘angels wings’ photo opportunity. A curated exhibition of framed historic photographs showcasing the rich history of the Parish and accompanied by voice recordings from Fr Donnelly and other Parish members, will provide visitors with the opportunity to explore the Parish history more deeply.
Across the road at St Thomas’ Anglican Church, one of Port Macquarie’s most treasured landmarks, the historic 200-year-old sandstone walls will be transformed into a beacon of light and colour. The display, presented in collaboration with St Columba Anglican School, will feature an immersive experience with a dynamic live projector show choreographed to music performed by talented students from the school. As vibrant visuals dance across the church’s façade, audiences will be swept up in a unique blend of art, history and sound.
“Bring the family along to explore the illuminated grounds and take in the beauty of our historic site reimagined through the lens of modern creativity,” said Reverend Daniel Berris, Rector of St Thomas’ Anglican Church. “We’re proud to once again be part of Artwalk and to be joined this year by St Agnes’ Catholic Parish in opening our spaces up to the community”.
“Church hill will definitely be the place to chill out in a relaxed space at this year’s Artwalk,” added Fr Paul Gooley, Parish Priest of St Agnes’ Catholic Parish. “We are looking forward to joining our neighbours in this celebration of art, heritage, and community”.
Each site will also offer a variety of creative activities, food and refreshments.
