Community Day highlights growing strength of Parish
A sense of belonging filled St Joseph’s Regional College on Sunday, 23 November as families, friends and neighbours gathered for the St Agnes’ Catholic Parish’s’ second Community Day. People came to reconnect. To enjoy a day made for togetherness. To celebrate the strength of a community that continues to welcome, support and uplift.
More than 900 free tickets were taken up, a clear sign of a Parish growing in spirit and unity.
The campus came alive with music, colour and constant activity. Students from across our six primary and secondary schools took to the stage. The drumline drew cheers and kept crowds moving. Food stalls from our Indian and Filipino communities shared meals that brought people together. The Aussie BBQ had a steady line all day.
Children rotated between petting zoos, jumping castles, face painting and craft. Gingerbread decorating, bead making and Tongan lei making kept young hands busy and parents smiling.
The day began with Mass. It grounded the celebration in our shared mission. It reminded us that faith is lived in community. It strengthened our understanding that the Parish serves many people across aged care, education, community services and pastoral care.
The heat did little to distract from that sense of purpose.
Parish Priest Fr Paul Gooley led the Mass and spent the day meeting families and volunteers. He spoke about the meaning of a Parish and the importance of gathering as one. He reflected on what it means to live out the Gospel through service and connection.
“This day showed the best of who we are,” Fr Paul said. “A community that gives, welcomes, celebrates and stands together. My sincere thanks to every volunteer, staff member, performer, stallholder and family who made this day possible. Your generosity and spirit are what keep our Parish strong.”
Assistant Principal at St Joseph’s Regional College and Parish Pastoral Council member, Matthew Bushe, said the day offered something deeper than entertainment.
“Events like this matter,” he said. “They remind us that our Parish is vibrant and thriving. They show that everyone has a place here and everyone is wanted.”
The success of the day went beyond numbers. It strengthened connections. It offered joy, rest and community pride. It showed how much can be achieved when people come together with purpose.
This year’s event set a new benchmark for what a community celebration can be. The Parish thanks every person who attended, contributed or volunteered. The warmth, energy and unity on display give us every reason to look forward to an even bigger celebration next year.
