Our Centacare services joined in NAIDOC Week celebrations

NAIDOC Week was celebrated across the NSW 7 to 14 July 2019 with Voice.Treaty.Truth as this year’s theme.

Our Centracare services joined celebrations in Kempsey, Port Macquarie and Wauchope including many events which celebrated the history, culture, and achievements of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Port Macquarie & Wauchope

Port Macquarie Centacare attended the flag-raising event held at the Glasshouse and Town Green to launch the local celebrations.

The NAIDOC Family Fun Day’s held in both Port Macquarie & Wauchope had a great turn out from the community. It was a free community event provided a BBQ lunch, entertainment, and activities for the community to enjoy.  Port Macquarie also hosted a Women’s Barefoot Bowls event at Port City Bowling Club on Friday 12 July, where the participants enjoyed a buffet lunch, lots of conversation and laughs to end a great week.

Kempsey

The team at Centacare Kempsey had a stall at the Burrun Dalai Family Fun Day held in Services Club Park, Belgrave St Kempsey on Wednesday 10 July as part of the 2019 NAIDOC Week celebrations. With around 50 display stands and 2,000 people attending, the day was a tremendous success!

A group of Centracare Centre Based clients also attended, enjoying the event and the beautiful sunshine immensely!

A huge thank you to our Centacare staff including Stacey Carney, Jade Chelman, Carolyn Chapman, Mel Freeman, Amanda McCloskey and Lorraine Cornell for organising our representation at this year’s NAIDOC week events and for helping our indigenous and non-indigenous clients be involved in such a wonderful celebration of culture.
