Better late than never for Kids’ Fun day at Kendal

The Kendall Family Fun Day, sponsored by the St Agnes Recovery Support Service (RSS), originally scheduled to run in November last year, was finally able to bring a few smiles to the kids at Kendall Showground on Saturday January 8.

Julie King, Manager of the St Agnes Recovery Support Service says the event, postponed due to poor weather and COVID restrictions, was the perfect way to check-in with the Kendall Community to see how its members are faring after the devastating impact of floods and bushfires in recent times.

“We specifically wanted to provide something fun for the children of the Kendall Community who have had to overcome significant adversity in the last few years,” says Julie.

Leading up to the event’s new day the organising team including Allison Haylett (from the Kendall Community Centre), Toni Holmes and Danielle Price (both from the RSS) had to overcome a few hiccups associated with spread of the COVID Omicron Variant as some volunteers had to isolate due to being close contacts were required to pull out at the last minute.

With the help of Toni’s daughter, Tahlia Holmes, and Danielle’s partner, Nathan Farrawell, the gaps were filled and the event went off without a hitch.

“It was great to bring a bit of holiday fun to this small, resilient community. Everyone enjoyed it immensely,” says Julie.

Thanks to the RSS kids’ activities including face painting, Troppo Bob’s Magic show and a supervised jumping castle were provided free of charge. The event also supported local charity ‘Aussie Battlers’ based out of Laurieton, which benefited from the Sausage Sizzle proceeds.
