Fr Paul’s surprise visit

Every morning since Fr Paul began recording and sharing his Gospel Readings and Reflections at the beginning of the COVID restrictions, the residents at St Agnes’ House have enjoyed nourishing their faith by listening to them or watching them.

On Friday 21 August, as Fr Paul’s video reflection (featuring Matthew 22: 34-40 and a reflection on the life of St Pius X) ended, the residents received a surprise visit from Fr Paul, who made his larger-than-life entrance just as the recording ended.

Much to the delight of the residents, Fr Paul stayed on for morning tea where the chat was about everything from sharing stories about bus outings and whale watching to recipes and baking scones.

The residents made the most of the opportunity asking Fr Paul how the Parish is coping during COVID.  Fr Paul reassured residents that the parish is doing everything they can to keep everyone safe. He gave them an update on the renovations recently undertaken at St Agnes’ church and the systems in place for Masses returning, for example, people wearing masks at Mass and people having to book in to attend Mass.

The residents thoroughly enjoyed the visit, commenting, “So lovely to see you!”, “What a wonderful pleasure and surprise!” and “A great blessing to have your Readings and Reflections, they are such a great way for us to start the day!

Fr Paul left the group with a prayer and a blessing.

*COVID-safe measures were in place for the small gathering with Fr Paul completing the COVID screening processes before entering the centre.
