Mental Health First Aid provides tools & information for daily life

Did you know 1 in 5 Australian experience a common mental health condition each year?

On 21-22 October 2019, 22 people completed two days of Standard Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training delivered at Bourne House, Port Macquarie. The accredited training provides participants with current evidence-based research, practice and strategies to respond to crisis regarding someone’s mental health.

Common mental health conditions and issues covered in the training include: anxiety, depression, psychosis, substance use, suicide and self harm.

“It is great to see people come to this training wanting to know more about how to approach issues in their workplace and in their personal lives around mental health”, said facilitator, Don Mackenzie.

Participant, Kelsey Petherick said, “The training explains the issues and steps which makes me confident to know what to do when I encounter someone who may be mentally unwell, like psychosis or at risk of suicide”

The training is free for St Agnes’ Parish staff and volunteers and also open to members of the public to attend at a cost.
