Our New Purpose‑Built Media Cabinet

In recent months, our parish has been working to improve the space where our future media team will serve. What began as a simple need for more room and to keep recently upgraded equipment safe and secure, quickly grew into a project shaped by patience, creativity, and a deep desire to honour the beauty of our church.

Our old audio-visual desk seated only one person, however we needed space to comfortably support up to 3 people. We didn’t want a setup that distracted from the prayerful atmosphere of the church. Instead, we hoped for something that blended naturally into the space, serving the liturgy quietly in the background.

With the generous help of Zac Parnell, overseeing the build, Paul Eichorn, a relief teacher who serves across our parish schools, and Peter Hayes from Newman Technical College, a design process was begun that went through many thoughtful revisions. Each adjustment helped create something both practical and in harmony with the church’s aesthetic.

One of the most meaningful choices was to repurpose timber from pews that were being removed to create more accessible seating for parishioners with mobility needs. These pews, which served our community for many years, now continue to serve in a new way.

The finished cabinet is everything that was hoped for: sturdy, secure, beautifully crafted, and perfectly unobtrusive. It is now ready to support a small team of parishioners who will help oversee audio, media, and livestreaming during our liturgies.

If you feel drawn to serving in this emerging ministry, no experience needed, with training provided, we would love to hear from you. This is a wonderful way to support the parish behind the scenes and help enhance our celebrations in a simple but meaningful way.

We extend our heartfelt thanks Zac, Paul,  Peter, and Newman Technical College for their craftsmanship, patience, and generosity throughout this project.
