Safeguarding in Lismore Diocese

With National Child Protection Week (NCPW) just around the corner, we are reminded of the need to put children first. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children.

The NCPW campaign aims to bring abuse and neglect out of the shadows and put child wellbeing on the national agenda. Open conversations are a key part of engaging the whole community in caring for children.

It is important for children to understand that rights are what every human being deserves, no matter who they are or where they live. Everybody has rights, which means they come with responsibilities for other people. We have to act in a responsible way, to respect other people’s rights so that everyone can receive what they deserve.

Even in the current COVID environment, it is important to acknowledge the need to come together as a community and put children’s needs first during NCPW and every week.
