Port Macquarie Youth Hub
The Port Macquarie Youth Hub engages, supports and nurtures the youth of the Hastings. We aim to promote self esteem by laying a platform based on friendship, health, education and community support.
Drop in Afternoons
Monday to Friday (3.00pm – 7.00pm)
Suitable for ages 8-18 years. These afternoons give young people the opportunity to relax and socialise with friends in a safe, friendly environment.
Rugrats
Rugrats, a youth group for all ages runs on Friday afternoons from 3pm to 6pm. The format usually includes afternoon tea, a play in the park and games in the hub. A light supper is provided around 5.30pm followed by games either on the oval, in the hub’s games room and finishing at 6pm.
Holiday programs
Special activities and workshops are usually offered during school holiday periods with specific spaces and programs for kids Under 11’s and a group for 12-18 years. The program of what is planned is generally available on the website (and as a brochure) at the Hub a few weeks prior to the holiday break. Participants need to register for these events.
Boy Space
The Boy Space program provides the time and space for young men (aged 13-18 years) to develop their personal character and communication skills through a range workshops and activities organised and run by successful men from the local community. It empowers teenage boys to tackle the social issues; create their own positive definitions of masculinity; and, to realise their own self-worth and their ability to be successful, resilient men.
Boy space is free and runs on Mondays (4.00 – 5.30pm) at the Youth Hub. Afternoon tea provided.
Outreach services
Showers and Laundry facilities
St Agnes’ Parish installed two showers and laundry facilities at the Youth Hub for use by people in the community, who may be experiencing homelessness for any reason. The facilities, discreetly located at the Hub, provide access to a shower and a place to wash clothes. Towels and toiletry packs are available to support this service, donated by individuals and local organisations.
Clothing Pool
The Hub operates a clothing pool to support young people in need. Donations of clothes suitable for teenagers are always welcome.
Morning food and lunch pack program
Lunch packs are available for kids who may not be able to take lunch to school. This is a community service program where young people help other young people by preparing food packs. If you’d like to be involved contact the Hub for details.
