Bishop drops into Trainee check-in workshop

Ten students from Newman Senior Technical College, who are part of the Parish’s School-based Traineeship program, attended a Check-in Workshop held in the Parish Hall at the Parish Administration Centre on Thursday 15 September.

The event coincided with a visit to the parish by Bishop Greg Homeming, who was pleased to meet with the students, their school representatives Julie Davis-Chaplin and Sue Leahy, and Leonie Wardrop (Parish Administration) during their morning tea break.

Eight of the students are undertaking traineeships in Individual Support and are working in the Parish’s Residential Aged Care Services at Emmaus and St Agnes’ Site. The other two are working at the Parish Administration Centre developing their business skills.

Some of the students are nearing the completion of their traineeships and others are just starting out, so it was a great opportunity to ask questions and share their experiences, which fitted perfectly with the Workshop’s theme of ‘Connection’.

The Workshop covered topics like Rostering, Payroll and Leave processes, Compliance, Learning & Development and Wellbeing.

Leonie Wardrop from Human Resources, who coordinated the event, was delighted with its success saying she was impressed with the level of student engagement and the feedback they gave, which will be very useful for future planning.
