St Peter’s environmental initiative sees uniforms worn out for a good cause

Year 6 Environmental Leaders at St Peter’s Primary school in Port Macquarie have begun a new environmental initiative in conjunction with ‘Worn Up,’  recycling non-wearable school uniforms.

‘Worn Up’ aims to reduce textiles in landfill by recycling unwanted and old school uniforms. ‘Worn Up’ can make a school desk from a school dress or acoustic tiles from scraps of school uniforms.

“By upcycling non-wearable uniform waste, we reduce landfill, save water, and make new Australian-made products,” commented Year 4 teacher, Natalie Jennings, who is working with the Environmental team to facilitate this initiative.

“Students are invited to bring in non-wearable school uniforms and place them in the pod, which is timely as the St Agnes’ Catholic Parish schools have just updated their current uniform and will roll out the new uniforms from 2022,” remarked Principal Geoff Leary.

“We have already filled one pod with recycled uniforms and look forward to making a difference,” remarked Year 6 Environmental Leader, Bailey Rowlatt.
